On this page, we explain the rates we apply when you order from Mr. Dutch Food. The total price consists of the Dutch retail price of the products, service fee, and shipping costs. Read our tips to order from Mr. Dutch Food as cheaply as possible!

Example

If you order 20 items from one store, besides the retail price of the items and shipping costs to your EU country, you pay 20 x €1.25 = €25 in service fee. Make a trial calculation yourself to see the total cost of an order from Mr. Dutch Food.

Rates

On this page, we explain the rates we apply when you place an order with Mr. Dutch Food. The total price consists of the Dutch retail price of the products, service fee, and shipping costs.
You can make a trial calculation to get an instant estimate of the total costs. Before placing an order, you will always receive a non-binding quote from us.

Retail prices with store promotions

You pay the exact retail prices from the Dutch store, including store promotions! You decide which store we will pick up the products from. On the store’s website, you can check and compare the prices yourself. We value transparency.

Example

Your selected products cost a total of €42.00 in a Dutch supermarket. We use this exact amount in your quote.

Buy 1 get 1 free? 50% discount?

You can take advantage from all store promotions! You can take advantage of the offers from Dutch stores! If a store offers 50% off or a second item free, you’ll get the same deal. Store promotions change weekly. Check the advertising brochures for the promotions.

Note: Please keep in mind that promotions must be valid for at least 2 more working days after payment, so we can collect your products within the promotional period.

Example: “Buy 2, Get 1 Free”

A product costs €4.50 per item in the store, and there’s a "2+1 free" promotion. If you order 3 items, you only for 2 items: 2 x €4.50 = €9.00.

Service rates

Service rate €1,25 per item

At Mr. Dutch Food, in addition to the Dutch retail prices and shipping costs, you pay a service rate of €1.25 per item/product as a fee for our shopping service, with a minimum of €10 per store. It’s most economical if you order at least 8 items per store. The service fee is always €1.25 regardless of the product’s store price.

Example

If you order 15 items from store A and 5 items from store B, besides the retail price of the items themselves, you pay 15 x €1.25 + €10 = €28.75 in service fee.

Buy 1 get 1 free? 50% discount?

As mentioned, you benefit from the promotions of Dutch stores! If you take advantage of a promotion where 1 or more items are free, you’ll receive these free items, but you still pay the service fee for the free items.

Example

If there’s a "2+1 free" promotion in the store and you order 3 items, you pay the store price plus the service fee for 3 items: 3 x €1.25 = €3.75.

Compare prices of expat shops

The Dutch store prices are much lower than those of many online expat shops that ship Dutch products abroad. Some apply very high profit margins to the products. We compared our prices with those of 3 other expat shops. Check out the results of the price comparison.

Example

A 680-gram jar of Hak Kale costs €3.32 at Jumbo. At 3 other expat shops we compared, you pay between €5.30 and €7.30. At Mr. Dutch Food, you pay only €4.68. (Prices as of September 11, 2024, including 9% VAT).

Service rates

At Mr. Dutch Food, you pay a service fee for our grocery shopping service.

Our service rates:

Non-perishable (shelf-stable) products: €0,70 excl. VAT per item + 20% of the Dutch retail price.
Fresh*, chilled and frozen products: €1,25 excl. VAT per item + 20% of the Dutch retail price
Minimum: €10 excl. VAT per store

* Fresh products are non-refrigerated items that we purchase fresh on the day of shipment, such as bread.

Example non-perishable products

You order 20 non-perishable items with a total retail value of €40.
You then pay €14 (20 x €0,70) + €8 (20% of €40) = €22 in service fees.

Example frozen products

You order 20 frozen items with a total retail value of €40.
You then pay €25 (20 x €1,25) + €8 (20% of €40) = €33 in service fees.

Buy 1 get 1 free? 50% discount?

As mentioned, you benefit from the promotions of Dutch stores! If you take advantage of a promotion where 1 or more items are free, you’ll receive these free items, but you still pay the service fee for the free items.

Example “Buy 1, get 1 free” promotion

A non-perishable product normally costs €3 per item. During this promotion, you order 2 items for €3.
You then pay €1,40 (2 x €0,70) + €0,60 (20% of €3) = €2 in service fees.

Multipacks

For multipacks, we charge the service fee based on half the number of individual items (bottles/cans). We consider a product a multipack if the items are physically bundled together and are also sold individually in-store, such as a 3-pack of sausages or a six-pack of beer.

Please note:
At Albert Heijn, many “volume voordeel” (bulk discounts/volume deals) are offered. These provide a discount on the retail price, but the items are delivered separately. These aren’t multipacks.

Example six-pack of beer

You order a 6-pack of beer for €6.
You then pay €2,10 (3 x €0,70) + €1,20 (20% of €6) = €3,30 in service fees.

Example price comparison

A 680g jar of Hak kale (boerenkool) costs €3.39 at Jumbo. At three other comparable expat shops, you pay between €5.77 and €7.58. At Mr. Dutch Food, you pay only €4.83. (Price level April 7, 2026, all prices include 9% VAT.)

Shipping rates

Packages are shipped within the European Union with UPS, FedEx, PostNL, DPD, or DHL. You will receive a track & trace code.

Packages are shipped within the European Union via UPS, FedEx, PostNL, DPD, or DHL. Below you can find the shipping rates and conditions per country. All rates are indicative and may change due to surcharges from the shipping carriers. Please request a quote for a shipment to your home address.

Delivery times are estimates and apply from the moment the package is shipped. We have no control over any delays caused by the carrier.

Chilled and frozen products can usually be delivered within 1 or 2 days across the European Union with express shipping. Would you like to know in advance if express delivery is possible? Or do you have special requests? Please contact us.

We usually ship on Tuesdays, with exceptions on other days. You will receive a track & trace code once your package has been shipped.

Order as cheaply as possible

Never pay too much! With these tips, you can order as cheaply as possible at Mr. Dutch Food. Take advantage of these benefits!

Take advantage of store promotions

The Netherlands is known for its many weekly changing store promotions. We can also purchase these promotional items. We pass on these lower retail prices to you. You benefit from this! We are the only expat shop offering this.

Combine promotions from various stores in one order

This way, you make optimal use of discounts that are valid at the different stores. But make sure to order at least 8 products from one store. We charge a minimum of €10 service fee per store. (8 x €1.25 = €10.)

Fill up your package

We aim for packages of around 20 kg, maximum 25 kg. So make sure to have a large shopping list and stock up your pantry to benefit optimally. This way, you don’t have to order often and pay shipping costs. Assume an average weight of 500 grams per product. So, 20 products will weigh approximately 10 kilograms.

Order together with others

Consider ordering together with family/friends to share the shipping costs.

Order multipacks

We consider a product to be a multipack if the individual items are physically bundled together and are also sold separately in-store, such as a 3-pack of sausages or a six-pack of beer. In that case, we charge the fixed service fee based on half the number of items in the multipack. More information can be found under Service rates.

Dutch VAT rates

Dutch VAT rates: 9% or 21%

As a new business, we may apply the Dutch VAT rates to the ordered products. We pass on the retail price on your shopping list 1 to 1.

In the Netherlands, a 9% VAT applies to food products. Other products are subject to 21% VAT. We also charge VAT on service and shipping costs.

Example

You order €30 incl. VAT of groceries with the 9% and 21% VAT rate. We pass this on 1-to-1. You pay €30 incl. VAT.

VAT rates

VAT rates: depending on your country

The websites of the Dutch stores apply the Dutch VAT rates. In the Netherlands, food products are subject to 9% VAT, while other products are subject to 21% VAT.

On your quotation and invoice, we apply the statutory VAT rates of your country to the products, service fees, and shipping costs. As a result, a product may end up being more expensive or cheaper than shown on the Dutch websites.

Example

You order €109 incl. VAT of food products at the Dutch 9% VAT rate. Your country applies a 6% VAT rate on food products. As a result, your products become cheaper, and you will pay €106 incl. VAT for the products.

But what does it actually cost to place an order with Mr. Dutch Food? With this calculation tool, you can get an indication of what an order with Mr. Dutch Food might cost.

Every order is different. We will provide you with a quote that offers the best and most affordable solution for your order. So the amounts are indicative and are not legally binding. In the preliminary calculation, we base our estimates on the following:

Your shopping cart only contains food groceries
The lowest shipping costs up to 20 kg
In case of chilled/frozen products: The average packaging costs of 1 EPS box with cooling elements
In case of non-perishable products and chilled/frozen products: two separate boxes are charged here. This isn't always necessary.
We use the most commonly used VAT rates of your country.
We do not take unrefrigerated fresh products, such as bread, into account in this sample calculation.

Note: UPS charges a significant surcharge for urgent shipments between October 2025 and mid-January 2026 due to the expected peak demand. Unfortunately, we have no control over this. This surcharge is already included in the indicative trial calculation below.
